Tübinger Tor

back to overview

The Tübinger Tor, one of four former gate towers in the town wall, is probably the most imposing symbol which has remained to us of the fortifications of the former imperial city of Reutlingen. Built in the mid-13th century, its unusually modern and formal gothic architecture, visible from outside the city, and the impressive height – for the time – of its walls were designed to emphatically impress the young town’s military strength and modernity upon any friends or enemies approaching the town.
