Houses along the city wall and the Tower

back to overview

You are standing in Jos-Weiß Street where part of the former city wall has been preserved. The corbels on the inner wall which formerly sustained the wooden parapet walk are clearly visible. If you turn right and walk alongside the wall, you will come to the so-called “Eisturm”, which once formed part of the bailey wall. In 1874 – at a time when refrigerators had not yet been invented – the tower was turned into a municipal ice house, due to its thick walls.
