Gartentor
The first mention of the Gartentor was in 1382 when it was referred to as the “New Gate”. Between 1600 and 1700 the gate was closed to all traffic. It is one of four former large gate towers in the town wall, one on each side of the town. The apartment at the top of the tower was for the warden of the tower, whose most important task was to watch for any signs of smoke which might indicate an incipient fire and, where necessary, to sound the alarm to warn the townspeople.
